The Guardian has revealed more Federal Government double speak about the Toondah Harbour proposal: protect the ecological character of a RAMSAR wetland by reducing the area listed in the 'urgent national interest'. The urgent national interest being a 'Residential Development' project, according to the developer's project description in the referral submission required by the Federal EPBC legislation. ... What's our federal member doing on this? I suspect conveniently staying quiet on the issue.
Such an unnecessary project. As if we don't have enough of this sort of development on our foreshores around the country, not to mention around the world.
NOOOOO!!!
While the counting of the votes continues, the likely outcome is that the Oodgeroo electorate will remain an LNP seat, although a lot more marginal than it was prior to this election.
So, what have I learned over the past two months of the campaign?
- Locals expect to have a genuine say in what happens in their community.
- They want their elected representatives to listen to them – not hide away hoping we’ll go away (We won’t).
- Residents want their representatives to be present every day - not to ignore the hard questions and decisions.
- People want all levels of politics done differently. Politicians need to get on with the job and work together for the common good. To cut out time-wasting, criticising and undermining politicians with differing views.
- Political parties need to have a close look at themselves and how they make important decisions – because they are becoming less and less relevant to the community who often feel ignored or alienated.
- And last but not least, I’m totally in awe of my campaign volunteers - nothing was too much. Together we’ve energised a broad community base to take action to make Oodgeroo better, more cohesive and to achieve a better future.
Whatever the official outcome, we have sent a resounding message to all politicians that we expect much more from them. And we are watching them closely.
Thank you all for your terrific support, and to my amazing volunteers for their sacrifices and tireless efforts over the last few months.
I will continue to advocate for appropriate development in the Redlands, pursue opportunities for renewable energy projects and local jobs - and look forward to working with many of you on these initiatives in the future.
Very best regards, Claire

You definitely need to keep up your profile and go against laming at the next federal election!!!!
Thank you Claire, for your resounding common sense and obvious care for the Redlands Community. Please consider standing for Bowman at the next Federal election...we need change in that area. I voted for your in the Mayoral election, and was disappointed at that outcome.
I'm not in your area either Claire (helped you with the council elections) and I just can't grasp why this campaign wasn't successful for you. It seemed that you did everything so so right and you are so right for the job. I honestly believe there is a percentage of people out there who just don't 'get it'! Who don't care enough and are too easily influenced by the big boys. Maybe you will give it another go - it must have cost you a great deal in all sorts of ways but you must have learned and built up a huge network.
Claire you made so many people feel proud, we could all hold our heads high being part of your campaign. Honesty, integrity and a Vision of the Community with Consultation. To me you have already been our Independant Oodgeroo MP...the last 8 weeks. You put Toondah Harbour on the media map of Australia and the world. Wishing you continued future success, health and happiness. Thankyou for the opportunity to help make a difference in our Community.
Well said. I dont live in your electorate but I was hoping you would win. Best of luck for your future endeavours
Thank you Claire for your hard work and making a real difference in this election. I know that you will continue to be an important part of our community. A
Well done Claire. You ran a great campaign. Sad that you didn't get the result your electorate so needed.
Congratulations Claire. You have truly represented the people of this community. You have been visible and vocal about our needs, you have canvassed opinions by tirelessly consulting electors at all levels, and have therefore pinpointed the issues that really matter to local electors. The Labor State Govt and the LNP Federal Govt consistently ignore the will of the people and believe they are born to rule. Your campaign was refreshing and authentic. Please don't give up. We need your voice to constantly remind the politicians that they are accountable to the people who pay their salaries and who care about their local communities.
Thank you Claire...all the best for you going forward...we are so grateful for all your hard work...and we are very disappointed that you didn’t quite make it.
Congratulations to Claire and to all her team for your passion, your shared vision and your indefatigable commitment – it has been an absolute privilege to watch, you’ve shown us all what can be done, and you have championed your cause magnificently. Getting heard in a Covid election is no mean feat, and Claire and her incredible team of volunteers have done an amazing job of raising interest, understanding and awareness of key Oodgeroo issues and opportunities even if the times and the setting have made it more challenging to translate this into immediate local leverage. This is sincere and serious public service, regardless of the result, and in a preferential system with all the possibilities for strategic voting the race has been closer than it looks at this stage on the 2PP numbers. The polling data made available via the QEC website thus far makes it clear what a genuinely broad and cross-party coalition Claire assembled - what an awesome force for community advocacy! There is so much to be proud of here. Respect, respect and still more respect.
You should be very proud of your endeavours. You should be the new oodgeroo MP but I know you will keep up the fight as we all will to fight against development of toondah harbour
Thank you for a great campaign Claire. It was strategic and principled and gave many of us an opportunity to support new energy and local jobs. However you pursue environmental sense in the future, the 'aqua army' stands ready to support you.
Congratulations on a clean and well conducted campaign. You have made a difference already our electorate. Maybe the next challenge should be Federal - as Bowman surely needs some honesty and integrity. Best wishes Claire.
Claire, having worked on a local prepoll and on election day; it was great to experience the determination of your volunteers - not one stray Oodgeroo voter was going to miss Claire’s HTV! May I add, this is the most gracious and grateful concessions to voters I’ve read. Other local unsuccessful candidates should take heed, that this is an example of how it should be done.
Thank you for trying! We were quite shocked at the result! You can hold your head high! 👍
Well done Claire! Great campaign! We'll fight on the save Toondah and Straddie!
Congratulations on a well run campaign. You conducted yourself with integrity and care for the community. Thank you for demonstrating how it should be done. Good luck with all your endeavours!❤
Good on ya Claire you ran a clean campaign. No nasty grubby smears. Didn't feed the trolls. It's a pity we don't have many politicians that think like you. Don't give up on trying to get a good outcome tor the people
Thank you Claire for your genuine care for the community and the environment. Glad you made the other players have a serious look at their own values.
Thank YOU Claire
Thank you for all your hard work and effort that you’ve put into this campaign. 👏👏👏
I honestly thought you had this 😔 I know you had enormous support from NSI, just too many old fashioned voters on the mainland I think who aren't ready for change yet. Please don't give up on us Claire 🙏
So dissappointed. We avoided all the electioneering rubbish by going away for 9 weeks supporting regional tourism etc, wholeheartedly readying to vote for you when we got back. Brain snap...you werent in our electorate. Bugger.
Well done Claire 👏👏👏
Well said, Claire. You were a fine candidate who ran a great campaign. Best wishes for your future. I know you still have a lot to offer our community.
This morning, a series of election adverts have been installed by the LNP around polling stations that are misleading and an attempt to mislead voters about my candidacy.
The signs suggest that I will support a Labour government if I am elected and there is a hung parliament. The sign shows images of myself, Jackie Trad MP and Michael Berkman MP. I have never met, spoken to or had any dealings with either of these MPs.
In early October I formally advised the LNP and ALP that I am a complete independent, and will support whichever party will deliver the most to our community. I swore a Statutory Declaration under oath stating this on 7th October, and a copy was delivered by registered mail to Dr Mark Robinson MP, Dr Andrew Laming MP and the ALP party office on or about the 10th October 2020.
I have this morning written urgently to the Electoral Commission Queensland and requested that the LNP is required to remove these signs as a matter of extreme urgency as misleading voters is an offence under Section 185 of the Queensland Electoral Act 1992.
A similar image was issued to voters in the electorate via SMS last night.
It is of great concern that political representation in Australia is prepared to stoop so low, and fails to provide our community with honesty, dignity and truth.
I am a true independent and, if elected and there is a hung parliament, will support whichever party will deliver the best outcomes for our community.

I’m not surprised. Our federal member probably erected them himself and paid for with our tax payer money.. 🤦🏼♀️ Good on you Claire, I’ve been cheering you on.. 🙌🏼
The major parties are terrified of genuine independents who threaten their duopoly, at the state as well as at the federal level. Party and ideological tribalisms tend to inoculate us against the very possibility of independent critical thinking. But don't trust me, just have a look at whatever you can find about confirmation bias and motivated reasoning in politics. There's plenty of it.
It is disgraceful that in this day and age that they turn to this type of behaviour to try and continue their apathetic approach to serving the community - their true values are on display and they should be ashamed and publicly apologise for trying to mislead the community - do they really think we are all stupid
That man is responsible for a whole lot of damage to democracy in the Redlands. He’ll say anything, shout anything, write anything. He must be such an embarrassment to the LNP.
Good Luck Claire, I hope this election teaches the mainstream party’s that people are tired of corruption, and this only proves how underhanded the LNP are in there dealings.
Would not at all be surprised that the person behind this is our federal member, scum prepared for anything.
Good luck Claire! I hope honesty prevails.
Standard operating procedure unfortunately!
This just shows I made the right decision NOT to vote for Robinson again. On me asking about Liberal support for Toondah he found it impossible to state if he supported it or not simply blaming Labor for the current situation. We need change - Good Luck Claire !,
More dirty tactics, yesterday I had 2 text messages come through from them on my phone. I can tell you I was not happy...
Atrocious. Not in the electorate at the moment, were the signs coloured AEC purple?
You are a true independent - they play dirty tactics because they know they are on the losing side- good luck today xx
Personally I'm surprised you are surprised. The are vile liars and prove they have no morals time and again. Good luck Claire. I'd personally go and take them down but I know you want to do the right thing.
Typical lies and dirty tricks at Election time. Shame on LNP 's candidate!!
This is one the of the many reasons why i will never vote for either of the major parties ever again.
They must be very threatened by your campaign. I sure hope you win 🥰
Yep I would believe you way before any of these party goons.
They know they have lost to you and showing their true colours.
Claire must have them worried!!!💜💛💚
I have only ever wished Claire all the very best. No mention of her in my work, as far as I can recall. Hope you have a great evening tonight.
It's a sign all right! A sign that the LNP are really getting desperate because they know the tide has turned against them. I hope they are wearing their Depends!
Does anyone know where the signs are?
A blight on the local LNP members. Both Federal and Cleveland members need to lose pre-selection. I'm with Claire.
I wonder if this is the Trump Effect? Laming and Robinson are both low life’s. This is what they do all the time. They just make these surgical strikes on Election Day. It looks like labour is pretty dirty too. Sad.
If you’re planning to vote for me on Election Day tomorrow, make sure you do it bright and early. Voting booths open at 8.am and close at 6 pm.
It’s predicted there’s going to be a big storm with possible hail starting late Saturday morning - going through to the afternoon. Make sure you keep safe and beat the weather.

You’ve got to wonder how much this was a referendum on Toondah. It’s seems 22% don’t want it, 78% either do or don’t care.
Thanks for the update Claire and, thinking to check in the weather for us x
🤞
Thanks for taking votes away from a stellar Labor candidate and ensuring a useless LNP hack got back in. Brilliant work! Congratulations! Exactly HOW has that helped ANYTHING? POINTLESS!! Pick a side Clair and align yourself with a party that can achieve government and effect change or stay away! What a disaster! 🤬
An exit poll has demonstrated that I am the front runner to win the seat of Oodgeroo, and the Courier Mail article today recognises this. Oodgeroo is now seen as one of the seats that will determine the next Queensland government.
I am a true independent, and if elected and my vote is required to determine the next government, I will support whichever party will deliver the most to our community.

The 13 seats where election will be won or lost
www.couriermail.com.au
These 13 seats have become the key battlegrounds in this election campaign, where a strong result could make or break a premier:My predictions . 1. Claire will win around 60% of the votes [ at the very minimum] 2. Mark will come second with 40% of the vote for a 17% Swing from the LNP . 3. ANNA will win the right to form a minority government .
To Claire - and to everyone who has pounded the ground for her, supported and amplified her message, and otherwise got behind this campaign by whatever means possible – you have done due-diligence, motivated, opened discussion, demonstrated what is possible, and given new energy and hope to so many who live both within and without Oodgeroo. Thank you, thank you, thank you for leading with imagination and clarity, and for reminding us all that history is written by those who show up for it. Please, voters of Oodgeroo, keep on coming through for a brilliant candidate and for everyone who has been rallied and inspired by an intelligent, thoughtful, honest, honourable, and exceptionally well-specified agenda, and above all, do yourselves a favour. Claire, we are so very heartened and grateful. Love your work.
So Claire, as I have asked a few times, if we have a hung parliament and you are the deciding vote as to who governs, knowing the respective parties promises and platforms, who are you going to support - the LNP or Labor?
And when you’re elected, perhaps you can deal with that Walker dominated Redland Council!
Best of luck Claire! We Redlanders need your integrity, intellect and community dedication. Go!
Most Redlanders are holding their collective breaths until the counting shows you have won Oodgeroo. There is no doubt in the minds of the army of Vote4Claire volunteers that Helen & I were proud to be part of that you will win by a large majority.
I think it is truly the dawn of a new beginning for our community and for positive change supported by well informed decision making made possible through consultation and collaboration. It is up to the community now to support a truly strong candidate who lives the values she espouses - go Claire
great news, your win would be so great for the community
Hopefully this will be the outcome 🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞🤞
That's great news Claire - do hope the polling is right. What Australia needs is more independents with their values in the right place, real capabilities to produce sustainable results and their heads screwed on tight.
After hearing Claire speak on ABC Radio and answer questions from Steve Austin I came to the firm conclusion that we have a unique opportunity here to have a representive who can think on her feet, who carries no major party baggage, who will strongly articulate the wishes of her constituents and who has the intelligence and grounded values to address the many local divisions in our Community. 2020 has thrown up many difficulties and challenges. It’s now throws up a beautiful opportunity.
If any state needs more independents, its Qld. With No upper house, a hung parliament with Independents holding balance of power is only a good thing, so get out and vote for Claire and other independents.
Once again Claire I personally cannot Thankyou enough for being our Oodgeroo Independant Voice...it Definately is a very important time for our Community and it’s future. I have been so proud to be part of your campaign one of honesty, politeness and truth. I cried speaking with you yesterday saying this and may voters bring you to soon be the only one who can tick off the Oodgeroo shopping list- 🌹
Has Lyle given Mark the kiss of death?
All the best Claire! My vote has been made! You are the change we need 🤞🤞
Best of luck Claire. You are just the change we need right now
👏👏👏👏👏
thenewdaily.com.au/news/state/qld/2020/10/30/queensland-election-preview/ This is the best opportunity ever in the history of Queensland for voters to have a strong independent voice for the electorate. I hope the good people of Oodgeroo choose wisely. Good luck Claire!
All the best Claire, my votes in, great meeting you when you came around the neighbourhood 😊
Claire good luck - those polls also said Bill Shifty Shorten would win -
Best of luck!
Good luck for today Claire....
All the best! I don’t live in the electorate but your strong opposition to the Toondah development is so important. I hope you win. We need more independent voices in parliament.
Woohoo 🙌
Russell Island needed Clair to bring it back after 50 years of neglect. LNP and ALP shame on you. 👺🔥👠
So the fight for the Oodgeroo electorate is well and truly down to the wire as reported by The Guardian Australia. Nothing is certain until all the votes are counted, but the article clearly shows that I can win.
Thank you to those voters who have already voted for me. To those who are still to cast their ballot, know that your vote for me is so important if you want to see real change in our community.
When voting, start by putting '1' against my name on the ballot paper, then choose your own preferences by putting a number in the other 5 boxes. Put a number in EVERY box for your vote to be valid.

Member for Warringa, Zali who...? I’ll list what she has achieved for her electorate as an Independent: 1. .........nothing 2. Um, .......nada! 3. Mmmmm, well she sits in parliament when she goes to Canberra, occasionally! Independents are a wasted vote but hey, it’s a democracy you can vote for whoever you want!
May voters be focused on our Oodgeroo future with an INDEPENDANT , who will tirelessly represent the majority views of the community and not the dictates of Party policy.
There might very well be a hung parliament. This means Claire as an independent member will hold the balance of power and almost certainly result in the Toondah Harbor proposal being nixed. Make it happen voters of Oodgeroo - this is your chance! twitter.com/BaronvonKlar/status/1321594705277186049
You are Awesome Claire and you and the people will do it. We beat Tony Abbott - Climate denier and we will win again.

www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2020/oct/29/queensland-election-deadlock-why-rob-katter-may-be... All the more reason to vote for Claire.
There’s more media interest in my independent campaign for the seat of Oodgeroo. This time from the Courier Mail’s ‘colourful’ opinion writer and wine expert, Des Houghton, who quizzed me on my campaign and what I stand for. I was happy to oblige - and, in the interests of accuracy, here’s how I answered his queries:
· No, I’m not running a campaign with independent Noosa MP, Sandi Bolton. I am grateful that she has kindly shared her experiences as an independent state MP and how she makes her community’s voice heard.
· No, I’m not a ‘greenie’ - but I am opposed to inappropriate developments like the proposed $1.4 billion Toondah Harbour in the protected waters of Moreton Bay marine park.
· Yes, I’m a successful business woman, having headed up my own engineering consultancy for over 20 years and a strong focus of mine, if elected, will be on creating clean, modern jobs in the Redlands.
· Yes, I support Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) legislation in principle following my own research and consultation with the Oodgeroo community. I support new laws that provide a choice for Queenslanders, so long as they reflect community views, include a range of safeguards, and properly funded palliative care would also need to be available throughout the State.
· Yes, I support the right of women to have a choice when it comes to abortion and the rights of doctors to be protected when they provide this option.

Thank you Claire. I’ve read each of your newsletters as they’ve come out with interest. One of you’re early newsletters stated that work should stop on the very unpopular Whale Interpretive Centre on the Point Lookout Headland however there’s been no mention of this in any further newsletters. Has your stance changed or still the same as that earlier newsletter?
Everything crossed for you, Claire. Best candidate In every way I’ve ever seen in any election. Honesty is not something we’re used to from our politicians.
You represent the views of Redlands 2030, sure.
Claire you are fully open And honest with the Community and leading the way.....May voters be focused on our future also.
Good luck Claire!!
Go Claire! 👍✊😊💜
From Ted. Reading clear, non-ambivalent responses to questions from a prospective politician was probably the most refreshing thing I have seen or heard in weeks. If you were running for Redlands I would have to carefully consider whether to vote for you or Kim who I also admire. As there is no independent candidate for Redlands who is acceptable to me Kim will get my vote again because I know she will do the best she can within the constraints of being in a major political party. I wish you well in your campaign for Oodgeroo.
Well done, Claire!
Good luck
Go Claire, wish I could vote for you, good luck🙏🙏🙏
You have ticked all my boxes Claire! 😀
Mine to. Claire
It’s a pity I don’t live in this electorate - you would have my vote.
James D'Arcy
It is certainly refreshing to hear open, honest and consistent statements about topics that are important to the local community. I believe there is real benefit in having an independent with aligned community views rather than pushing the party line. Let’s hope Claire gets the opportunity to implement some of her ideas. It will be the best traction we have had on positive change for years

Oodgeroo candidates in state election
www.redlandcitybulletin.com.au
Meet the candidates in the Oodgeroo electorate.
It was great to be interviewed by Steve Austin of ABC radio about my policies for producing over 1,000 genuine, permanent jobs for Oodgeroo, my concerns about the lack of road and rail infrastructure in the Redlands and the proposed 3,600 residential unit apartment at Toondah Harbour on new land in Moreton Bay. My policies are designed to transform Oodgeroo from a dormitory suburb to a genuine city where we can work, live and play - not simply generate temporary construction jobs and more apartment blocks to house commuters.
Listen to the interview using the attached link to the 26th October episode - the interview commences at 35.00 minutes.
It was disappointing that the LNP and ALP candidates did not make themselves available to respond directly to the issues I raised during the interview with Steve. These issues are of great concern to the Oodgeroo community and our electorate deserves genuine representation, and not simply an MP that follows the party line or makes excuses about being in opposition.
I am a genuine independent and have no current or previous membership of the LNP, ALP or Australian Greens or any pressure group. If elected, I will be a strong voice for our community.

Who ever hears about the independent that won a seat in Federal Parliament with Green preferences at the expense of a long term local
For the first time in a long time I am interested and engaged in an election. After how well claire did in the mayoral elections I can see we might finally I have a sensible voice in parliament! I am so excited about Saturday...Go claire!
You have my vote too Claire. Thank you
The critics will criticise, as they do.. I heard the Interview. It was polished and professional. Very impressive. Quite unbelievable that Robinson would pass on this opportunity to argue his case. Well done Claire.
I find it interesting that people criticise the Surveys as being unprofessional without being able to point to ANY survey that says Toondah is a good proposal.
It was an amazing interview - we felt so safe of Oodgeroo future in your more than capable hands...you have our vote.
But you cite Redlands 2030 “surveys” as gospel. They’re terrible surveys, Swiss cheese style. They only give the answers 2030 wants. I think you’re in their pocket, and that puts you in, or at least very near, the Green camp. Certainly the attacks I’ve experienced from fake accounts with multiple, very unpleasant users underline my suspicion.
All well and good Claire having the great ideas but as an independent you are a voice in the wilderness. Align yourself to a party and get traction otherwise a vote for Claire is a vote to nowhere........
To those friends of Robinson who continue to stalk this site , I challenge you to listen to the FULL interview with Steve Austin and ask yourself ...could your man have been so articulate, coherent and impressive in this type of interview ? He had the opportunity to have equal time.He ran away. That says enough for me.
Stay tuned to Steve Austin's Drive program on ABC 612 4QR at 4.00 pm today for my interview with Steve. ... See MoreSee Less

Nice interview Claire.
